Take the time to love you

Take this time of new beginnings and dusting off the cobwebs of your life to focus on the biggest VIP in your life, yourself.

Too often we beat ourselves up, we criticise ourselves for the most mundane things over and over and feel like we’re failing. You know me by now, and I believe failure is your growth serum. Failures are how you build yourself to be the best version of yourself.

You get back up and carry on the journey. But why hold yourself back and talk yourself down? Why do people abuse themselves in emotional and physical in such ways? Would you accept this from somebody else? Would you stay in a vicious cycle of someone else putting you down at every turn and not accepting anything as good enough? For most people, I understand the answer to this is no – so why do it to yourself?

It’s a difficult topic to talk about for some people, but it’s an extremely important one, and a nurturing experience everyone needs to practice in their lives to become the best version of themselves.

Learning to love yourself is an ongoing lesson and a lifetime of education, but it’s one that will serve you and your level of success well. If you love and accept yourself for who you are, after all, is that not success?

How can you love yourself more?

• Gratitude list – this can be a scrap of paper, a note on your tech device, just something easy to keep handy. Make sure this list has everything you are grateful for in your life, be it your smile, a compliment someone told you, who you hold dear in your life, what you’ve achieved. Anything that makes you remember and appreciate what you have and realise how much you’ve got. Read it every night before you sleep and whenever you’re feeling a little lost

• Surround yourself with only that of what you love. Have a clear out of your home, donate, bin or sell anything that doesn’t bring you happiness or make you happy. Have a clear out of your facebook friends or social media followers, only accept that of what you want to see anytime you log on, people who remind you of who you are and bring positivity into your life. Make sure the people in your life are there for the long haul and only keep those who you can depend on and who will support you (and those who you will/want to support in return).

• Keep on top of your physical health – take care of your body, treat yourself occasionally to whatever delicious cake or whatever vice you have every once in a while, but make sure you keep on top of your energy levels properly, exercise and sleep well. A happy hormone level does wonders for your mental health.

• Invest in yourself – invest your time in what makes you happy, don’t take on anything you’re not actually wanting to do unless it has to be done. Don’t run yourself into the ground running about after everyone else when you can’t even care for yourself and keep on top of your own to-do list. Invest your mind in meditation, education and self-affirmations and do what makes you happy.

Take care of yourself, love yourself and your success will grow exponentially.

To your success.
